About Me
I haven’t always been a midwife; in fact, it’s been quite a journey! I’ve always had a strong interest in the human body which led me to my first degree in Exercise Sciences with a postgraduate in Exercise Sciences and Rehabilitation through Charles Sturt University. Working as an Exercise Physiologist which involved a placement at The Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra was great and interesting, however didn’t feel like the right fit for me.

My love of fitness drew me away from Exercise Physiology and into the world of Martial Arts, and within 18 months I found myself competing in a C grade Thailand reality TV show called Tuff Girls! It’s fair to say that at this point in my life, I was very much an “all or nothing” young woman!

The birth of my first child was my first introduction to midwifery. It was the midwives who made me feel safe and eased my fear around my imminent induction of labour for pre-eclampsia. I believed that their reassurance and care was a gift given to me in that moment. Being on the receiving end of “Nurturing”, soulful midwifery care, even in such a fleeting moment in time, was enough to inspire me to become a Midwife.

I birthed my second baby in my third year of my Bachelor of Midwifery at Griffith University. During this time, I learned some hard lessons around my usual “all or nothing” approach. I learned that I would fail if I continued to hold the expectation of top university marks, giving my all at hospital placement, perfect parenting and maintaining a strong happy, healthy marriage. During this time, I learned give and take, compassion and empathy for myself and others, balance, to ask for help and allow others to help me, and the importance of community, connection and my “Village.”

For the birth of my third baby, I wanted to birth outside of the hospital setting. Unfortunately, birthing options in my local area were limited to hospital at the time. Although I had an amazing waterbirth experience within the hospital setting, I was driven to provide alternative birthing options for women in my community. This meant further postgraduate study in prescribing through Griffith University to become an Endorsed Midwife with APRAH and the ability to provide Private Midwifery care.

I believe the woman I am growing into, is strongly reflected in the Midwife I am becoming. I have been a privately practising Midwife since 2020, with the birth of Nurturing Village Midwifery in 2024. The word “Nurturing” pays homage to all of the loving, guiding, women supporting women, midwifery care provide by the wise women of our villages, communities and hospitals. “Village” recognises that the journey of birth and parenthood was never meant to be done alone.

At Nurturing Village Midwifery, I hope to be your guide though the transformative journey of birth, to care for you, explore new knowledge with you and to discover your unique learnings.
